Buying your first binder can feel like a big decision, and it's easy to get overwhelmed by all the options. Here's how to think it through.
Start with what you need it for
Are you binding for everyday wear, for swimming, for a big event, or just to try it out for the first time? This narrows things down fast. A Basic Binder Zipper is easy to get in and out of on your own, which makes it a popular first choice. A Basic Swim Binder is built specifically for water and won't work the same way out of the pool. A Tank Binder gives more coverage if you want it to double as a top.
Measure before you guess
Don't estimate — measure. Use a soft tape measure around your bust and underbust, and check our sizing and fitting guide for the full chart. If your numbers fall between two sizes, always take the larger one. A binder that's too small isn't just uncomfortable, it can be unsafe.
Expect an adjustment period
Your first binder will feel firm, especially in the first hour. That's normal. What's not normal is pain, numbness, pins and needles, or trouble breathing — if you notice any of that, take it off and go up a size.
